Police open internal and criminal investigations into alleged camera misuse

Baytown Police Chief John Stringer said the department opened an internal-affairs investigation into potential policy misconduct involving its Flock license-plate reader system and requested the Harris County District Attorney’s Office assist with a separate criminal investigation. The officer was not identified, and the allegations had not been sustained when the report was published.

Police publish camera counts, search records and audit practices

Chatham County Police launched a public portal showing its Flock camera count, what the system does and does not track, the number of department searches and downloadable records of recent searches. WTOC reported that the department audits searches monthly and deletes collected data after 30 days under state law, while critics said transparency alone does not prevent misuse.

Texas attorney general orders release of camera-program records

The Houston Chronicle reported that the Texas Attorney General’s Office directed Conroe to release basic information it had withheld from a public-records request concerning its Flock program, while allowing some sensitive material to remain confidential. The request covered contracts, policies, emails and records of searches or data pulls; city leaders were also considering a citizen advisory committee.
